Translators are central to Mozhi’s vision of championing critical discourse between the various literary traditions of India. Both as conduits for cultural exchange, and as curators who work in the service of taste, a vibrant crop of translators is vital to a thriving literary ecosystem.

Accordingly, the Mozhi Prize was instituted in 2022 with a mission to discover and inspire new talent in translation. With the desire to remain accessible to hitherto unpublished translators, the Prize awards outstanding translations of short fiction written in Indian languages, into English.

While seeking to platform new translation talent, the Mozhi Prize also aspires to be a repository of some of the most questful, affecting, and imaginative writing from across various Indian languages.

Selected by distinguished jury members, some of the past finalists of the Mozhi Prize have been published in other magazines, selected for prestigious courses / mentorships, and have gone on to tackle book-length works.
